Rates for locum doctors vary significantly on seniority, speciality, location and time of year. On average specialists can earn between $2500-$4000 per day, whilst HMO’s earn between $100-$180 per hour.
The more rural a doctor is willing to work the higher their rate can be.

- Up to date CV
- Current AHPRA general registration
- 2-3 references from consultants or senior registrars
- Police Check

At what Post Graduate Level can i sign up to be a locum doctor?
Locum jobs start at PGY2. Most hospitals however will search for doctors PGY3 and above.
Do you charge doctors a fee?
Unlike locum agencies we do not charge hospitals 15-30% on top of your locum rate. We work similar to SEEK where hospitals pay a small fee for accepted shifts through our platform (Over 75% cheaper than any agency).
How easy is it to find a locum job in Australia?
There are plenty of jobs for locum doctors across the country, if you know where to look. In 2024 there has been an increase in locum doctors which is making finding work slightly harder than previous years. Download our app to see all available shifts across the country.
How are doctors verified on StatDoctor?
StatDoctor conducts the same checks that any locum agency does. This includes confirming your identity, checking your ahpra registration and getting references.
Who organises accommodation and travel for the locum doctor?
Once a locum doctor has been successfully accepted for a shift, the hospital and locum doctor will receive each other’s contact details. The hospital can then either request the locum doctor to organise their own travel and accommodation +/- reimbursement, or provide any necessary information and forward such to the locum doctor.
Will I have to pay for my travel and accomodation
Not ususally. Most hospitals, particuarly rural ones, will cover you for travel and accomodation expenses. This can be easily seen on the app.
