StatDoctor: October 2026
3,847 shifts added, a new clinical evidence benefit, and your CPD deadline
A note from Anu
Welcome to the October round-up. The headline this month is work. We added 3,847 shifts across the network in October, more than double September, so if your feed has looked busier, that is why. 97 of you joined through the month, taking us to 749 doctors. Three other things worth your time. We are setting up free premium access to AttendMe, a clinical evidence assistant built for people who move between hospitals, and it is coming soon. There are also two introductions below, one in surgery and one in radiology. And your 2026 CPD is due by 31 December, so there is a note below with the detail. As always, just hit reply if anything catches your eye.
Month Highlights
- 13,847 shifts added in October, more than double September. Emergency Medicine, O&G, General Medicine and Psychiatry led the way, across 22 facilities.
- 2749 doctors and counting. 97 doctors joined in October, taking us to 749 on the platform across 371 facilities.
- 3New benefit coming soon: AttendMe. We are setting up free premium access to a clinical evidence assistant. Details below.
- 4Two introductions. Associate Professor Chrys Hensman joins as our advisor in surgery, and Shomial Surani leads radiologist recruitment. Details below.
- 5Your 2026 CPD closes 31 December. You need 50 hours for the year, logged with your CPD home. Worth checking where you are now rather than in the last week of December.
- 6Rural generalist medicine is now a recognised specialty field. If you hold the ACRRM or RACGP qualifications, the transitional window to claim the title closes 29 March 2027.
A new benefit, coming soon

AttendMe
We are setting up free premium access to AttendMe for StatDoctor doctors, and it is coming soon. AttendMe is a clinical evidence assistant built around the way you actually work. You tell it your specialty and interests once, and it pulls relevant literature to you rather than waiting for you to search. Every claim it makes is cited and ranked by evidence quality, drawing on Cochrane reviews and randomised trials. It also takes local hospital protocols, which is the part that matters if you move between sites and have to work out whose guideline applies before your first shift. It runs on web, iOS and Android, and 160 doctors across Australia and New Zealand are on it already. We will send the details and your access code in a separate email once everything is in place, so there is nothing to do for now. When it opens, we would like to hear what you think, because the feedback shapes whether we keep it as a standing benefit.
Visit AttendMeTwo new faces
Two people have joined the StatDoctor side this month, and both are on the clinical end rather than the software end. Associate Professor Chrys Hensman is joining us as our advisor in surgery. He is a Melbourne general and laparoscopic surgeon, and his remit with us is surgery specifically: what surgical registrars and consultants actually need from a platform, how theatre and list cover gets filled, and the college and credentialling side sitting behind all of it. If you are in a surgical specialty and something about StatDoctor does not fit the way you work, that feedback now has somewhere to land. Shomial Surani leads radiologist recruitment for StatDoctor, through our radiology pilot with Atom Recruitment. If you are a radiologist, or weighing up reporting work on either a locum or a permanent basis, he is the person who will be in touch. Radiology is the specialty we have served worst so far, and this is the fix rather than an excuse. Both are reachable through us. Reply to this email and we will make the introduction.
Police checks, sorted

Validex
Most hospitals want a police check no more than twelve months old, which for a lot of you means paying for a new one every year. Validex is our police check partner. A nationally coordinated criminal history check for employment or licensing is $58.90 including GST, done entirely online, with no post office visit and no certified copies to arrange. Validex is operated by Risk Group, an ACIC accredited body that has been running these checks since 2008. The part that saves you time is the identity step. Validex verifies your identity digitally, using government document validation and live facial matching, rather than keeping copies of your passport and licence. In their words, identity documents are verified rather than stored. Once you are verified, that identity is reused for your next check, so you are not starting from scratch every year. If you work across several hospitals, agencies or clinics, that is the bit that matters. Any ACIC accredited provider is fine for StatDoctor credentialling, so this is an option rather than a requirement.

October News
Your 2026 CPD is due by 31 December
You need 50 hours of CPD for 2026, and it has to be logged with your CPD home. Your home sets its own cut-off in early 2027, so check the date with them. The program level requirements include culturally safe practice, addressing health inequities, and professionalism and ethical practice. Specialists may have extra college requirements on top.
Rural generalist title protection ends 29 March 2027
Rural generalist medicine is now a recognised specialty field. If you hold eligible ACRRM or RACGP qualifications, apply for specialist registration before the transitional arrangements end. From 30 March 2027 only practitioners with specialist registration in rural generalist medicine can use the title.
New guidance on financial and commercial conflicts of interest
Ahpra and the National Boards have released interim guidance on recognising and managing commercial or financial conflicts of interest. The Board has flagged particular concern about businesses that advertise, prescribe and dispense a single medicine, and about incentives to recommend particular assessments, treatments or devices. Maximum penalties are $60,000 for an individual and $120,000 for a body corporate. Worth reading if you prescribe in hormone therapy, weight management or any single product telehealth setting.
New resources for internationally qualified doctors
The Medical Board has published step by step guides on registration, applying for a job and getting a visa, resources for families, and online orientation units covering the Australian health system, regulation, Medicare, prescribing and the NDIS.
Best Practice says using Heidi II with Bp Premier breaches its licence
Best Practice Software has told users that running Heidi's agentic product, Heidi II, alongside Bp Premier would breach the End User Licence Agreement, and that the EULA is being updated to spell out that bots, scraping tools and robotic process automation are not permitted. Heidi II works by driving the software interface the way a doctor would, rather than through an integration. Heidi chief executive Dr Tom Kelly says they have been trying to integrate with Best Practice for three years. Nothing is resolved, and the contract sits between the vendor and your practice, so if you are running both it is worth knowing where you stand.
